From jamming on the piano and drum set, to creating a play structure out of chairs, to reading aloud from Charlotte’s Web, to planning a school play, to hide and seek, to legos, to marble towers, to imagination games (and the list goes on), everyone found [...]]]> Yesterday was an exciting day for everyone at Leeway! From jamming on the piano and drum set, to creating a play structure out of chairs, to reading aloud from Charlotte’s Web, to planning a school play, to hide and seek, to legos, to marble towers, to imagination games (and the list goes on), everyone found something fun to do. A highlight of the day was seeing all of the kids (whos ages range from 5 to 12) running around the school together, playing games and having a great time.

For a lot of kids, this experience is very new (as one of our students said, “I’m not used to a school like this…but I definitely like it), and it is amazing to watch kids go through the process of learning how to take responsibility for themselves and their school. Leeway really is their school, and that’s what makes it such an inspiring place to be.

If you haven’t done so yet, come visit us! Yesterday co-founder Alexandra DiMarco came by with some lovely flowers to celebrate our opening. We would love to see more of you–parents, founders, and friends are all encouraged to visit. Let us know if you’re planning to come by; the school phone number is 619-900-4436. We will also have some official student visiting hours (for potential enrollees), which we will announce soon.

Thanks to everyone in the Leeway community for supporting us and helping to make this school a reality. This is going to be a fantastic year.

Unlike traditional summer camp programs that have a predetermined schedule, Leeway Sudbury allows campers to plan their own daily activities and field trips. Opened to both enrolled and non-enrolled students, this can be a great opportunity to see what the Sudbury model is all about!

What: “Taste of Sudbury” Summer Camp

When: 3 weekly sessions, August 6th through August 24th

Cost: $150 per week ($50 for Leeway students)
